Dental crowns and bridges restore Burlington smiles

The term “restorative dentistry” describes procedures that reinstate the mouth’s function (ability to chew and speak), and aesthetics (the beauty of your smile) following an oral health problem. The team at Mount Royal Dental strives to help you avoid dental issues with preventive care and education. However, anyone can be subject to tooth decay or trauma. Dental crowns and bridges are sound dentistry treatments that restore smiles in Burlington and throughout the greater Toronto and Hamilton areas.

Dental crowns

When a tooth has a large area of decay, suffers a crack or break, or has root canal treatment, its strong structure is compromised. A dental crown is a jacket, shaped like the tooth, that covers the entire visible portion. A crown is usually a two-visit restoration. At the first appointment, areas of damage are removed and the tooth is shaped. The dentist takes impressions of your mouth, and places an interim crown. A dental laboratory uses the impressions, precise measurements, and color specifications to fabricate your crown. You return in about a week to have it cemented into place.

Porcelain fused to metal crowns are popular for their durability and natural appearance. We also offer zirconia (non-metal) and gold crowns. With a CEREC computerized milling machine on site, crowns can often be made while you wait, saving a second visit.

Dental bridges

A dental bridge restores one or more consecutive missing teeth. A bridge is comprised of crowns for the healthy teeth on either side of the gap, and an artificial tooth to replace the missing one. The crowns are cemented into place, anchoring the bridge securely. This type of restoration is not removable, so it provides better stability than a partial denture. The bridge completes your smile, and keeps natural teeth from shifting out of position.

Dental crowns and bridges are just two of the restoration options available in Burlington. Call Mount Royal Dental at (905) 581-9912 to learn more.
