Transforming smiles with dental veneers in Burlington
Have you ever wondered how the celebrities you see on television and in the movies got such flawless teeth? In many cases, their straight, even, radiant smiles didn’t happen by chance – they had some help from dental veneers. Burlington
and Hamilton area patients can get their smiles transformed with this method, at Mount Royal Dental.
Porcelain veneer basics
Dental veneers are thin layers of stain-resistant porcelain, precisely designed to cover visible teeth surfaces. Teeth are “prepped” by removing a tiny amount of enamel to ensure a snug fit. For complex cases, molds of your mouth go to a dental laboratory where wax models are created. These “wax-ups” give you and your dentist a three-dimensional look at your new smile. When you are pleased with the design, the lab fabricates final veneers, and the dentist bonds them to your teeth. Complete anterior veneers can often be completed in one day,
with prep in the morning, and veneers placed in the afternoon.
Veneers are a great choice for the patient with healthy teeth and gums, who wants to correct the appearance of:
- Discoloration – Left behind by medications such as tetracycline, from root canal treatment, old dental work, excess fluoridation, or stubborn stains.
- Size and shape – Teeth that are worn down, look too small, or have an unusual shape.
- Enamel flaws – Chips and cracks, and natural craters, grooves, or bulges can be disguised with veneers.
- Misalignment – Uneven spacing, gaps between teeth, and minor twists and tilts can be visually corrected with veneers.
Low prep and no prep veneers
Lumineers are even thinner than porcelain veneers. They can be designed and placed with little or no removal of tooth enamel.
Most patients are thrilled with their new smiles, but Lumineers can be removed since enamel is not disturbed.
